I'm sure you've heard it a thousand times, "Make Money Online Blogging!"
But what does that mean? How in the world can you make money just by blogging?
You can't.
Let me explain. You can make money by using platforms within blogging, but not the actual blogging practice in and of itself.
Here are 4 ways you can make money blogging:
1. Ads. You can offer ads on your website, which will bring in revenue. By people placing ads on your site through Buy Sell Ads or Advertising Online or even Google Adsense, you have the potential to create revenue from ads.
2. Products. Things like an Ebook, Wordpress Plugin, Shirts, Mugs, or any other type of product attached to your blog, will certainly bring in revenue.
3. Services. Any type of service you can offer people will definitely generate revenue from your blog.
4. Affiliate Sales. This could fall into services or products, but it's basically in a category all its own. You can sell affiliate products simply by blogging about them and offering them on your site.
As you can see, it's the platforms that will generate revenue and not the blog itself. There's no guarantee that any of these methods will work; you will need to blog, in order to promote those platforms, which would lead to making money, but simply starting a blog and updating with a post every now and then, does not generate revenue.
Let me also clarify, that creating a successful blog and audience takes time. Keep at it and don't give up!
Here is a bonus tip for you that could help you make money as a blogger.
There is another side to this equation. There are people out there who need a blog, but simply don't have time to write their own blog, so they'll hire a writer to blog for them. That can be a lucrative way to make money as a blogger; by blogging for other people as a ghost blogger.
This position is still new and not many people realize that they can hire someone to simply write their blog for them, in their voice, but it is becoming more of a reality with each passing day and definitely something to keep an eye out for if you're interested in blogging as a career. Usually it's only $10-20 a blog post, but if you blog a lot, it's worth it.
I hope this has cleared up any confusion!
Good luck in your blogging ventures!
